Marian Masone earned a degree in Theater at Marymount Manhattan College and a Master’s in Cinema Studies at New York University. She first worked at the Media Center for Children, showing children’s films all over the city.

In 1984, Marian Masone began working at the Film Society of Lincoln Center, the most prominent film institution in New York City, and became Associate Director of Programming. She was on the Selection Committee of the New York Film Festival and co-programmed the New Films / New Directors Festival with the MoMA. 

At the Film Society she also organized education initiatives and established programs for emerging artists.

She has been a panelist and jurist for numerous national and international organizations and festivals and has lectured at Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, the Cinéfondation Residence and the Reina Sofia Museum.

In 2016, she left the Film Society of Lincoln Center to work as an independent film and media consultant. Her clients include the International contemporary art fair, Art Basel (Switzerland, China and the United States). She also serves as a permanent film panelist for the Princess Grace Foundation.
